IT was third time lucky for Ron Miller when he and Gavin Aitkin took out the minor pairs club championship recently, reported Bob Rogers of Thirroul Bowling Club.

Miller played lead for beaten finalists in Thirroul's triples and fours, but excelled as skip to down Neil Henson and minor singles champion Barry Curtin in the minor pairs.

Meantime, bowls co-ordinator Matt Sargeant has had a super year, including the Zone 16 Champion of Champions singles and pairs (the latter with Ted Clarke).

Sargeant has also won the Thirroul fours and is set to give the mixed pairs a shake with Callie Adderson.

At the NSW Championships, Matt played third to Steve Glasson in a combination that reached fours semis.

Thirroul received a 75th anniversary plaque when Royal NSW and Zone 16 officials joined the club's grade 3 pennant celebration.
