Marina For The Rich

Ron Tindall's article in the Illawarra Mercury, 'Bellambi top spot for marina', was a very interesting concept.
I wonder if he gave any thought at all to the people who make up the majority living in the homes that surround the Bellambi Bay area. They are mostly Department of Housing residents. Does Mr Tindall think that these people would be allowed to stay? What an opportunity for the government to make millions by flogging off all these low cost homes, but does Mr Tindall have a solution as to what to do with all these ordinary, not so rich, struggling people who call Bellambi home?Their homes would be razed to make way for the mega rich who will want to view their moorings from their lounge rooms. How about a task force against the establishment of a Bellambi Bay Harbour Marina. Sounds good to me.Kev Wadeson, Bellambi.Summit for stale ideasResponse to the article by Maria Hawthorne, '2020 dream: online republic and proud', Mercury April 2. "1000 of Australia's best and brightest will stimulate fresh ideas and direction for the future", is how Mr Rudd promoted the 2020 Summit. But I thought the Australian people elected Mr Rudd and the Labor Party to bring fresh ideas and direction to the lucky country. Why were 1000 of Australia's (so-called) best and brightest being given the status of elected representatives? I do not recall voting for these people to speak on my behalf. So far, the 2020 Summit has endorsed the following: (1) The idea of Australia becoming a republic, despite the fact the majority of the people rejected it. (2) A scheme to impose organ donation on the Australian people, despite the fact more then half the population have consistently rejected mandatory organ donation. (3) To impose more hardship on the community to save the planet from human-induced climate change. These topics from the 2020 Summit are neither fresh nor new, and certainly will not help the nation. It seems to me the 2020 Summit has been a tool to distract the Rudd government from helping the most vulnerable citizens. Adrian S. Devlin, Fairy Meadow. Maddens madnessThe suggestion that Maddens Plains should become farmland shows no research from the writer who suggests it.Except where the two current 18 hole golf courses are, you have the surrounding Dharawal Conservation Area and Special Catchment Areas. There is no access to the F6 and it would be extremely doubtful the State Government would allocate millions of dollars when they have the Helensburgh Interchange about 8km away. Alan Bond, Stanwell Tops. A surgery that caresThere are so many negative experiences published about the Illawarra Health Service. I would like to share a positive one. I had to take my two-year-old child to the Wollongong Day Surgery to have her adenoids removed. We were treated with kindness. compassion and professionalism throughout my little girl's ordeal. The nurses there were attentive to my daughter and constantly around so that I could ask any questions I had. Each question was answered with professionalism and kindnessThe next day the surgery rang to check on her progress.I would like to thank Dr Tahmane, the nurses and staff at the Wollongong Day Surgery for their professionalism, kindness, compassion and obvious dedication to their jobs. It made a traumatic experience as pleasant as it could possibly be.Thank you!Natalie Pero, Shell Cove.
