THE Wendell Sailor show returns for a highly anticipated encore performance tomorrow at Shellharbour's Ron Costello Oval.
Sailor captured the imagination of the Shellharbour community with his sparkling return to rugby league in last week's debut with the Shellharbour Marlins. He has been signed by St George Illawarra and the Marlins couldn't believe their luck when they were hand-picked by the Dragons to give the dual international two games in the Jim Beam Cup.Tomorrow night, the Marlins host the WA Reds and Sailor's pulling power at the gate will ensure another big turnout.Club officials believe last week's crowd of around 3000 would have been double the size if a cold snap hadn't hit Shellharbour two hours before the 5.30pm kick-off."The weather turned a lot of people away, especially people from outside the area," Marlins president Peter Blaine said."Hopefully the weather gods will smile a little brighter for us this time, but I'd say it'll be a night for the winter woolies again."Blaine urged league fans to make the most of the last opportunity to see Sailor before he is promoted to the Dragons."He might play one more game with us, it'll be up at Windsor if he's back for a third game, so I'd say Saturday will be the last time we'll see him at Ron Costello Oval," he said."There was a lot of interest with Wendell last week and people are still talking about him."Blaine said gate entry would remain at $7."There was a false story going around last week that we'd bumped the prices up on everything but our entry price is always $7," he said.Sailor will train with the Marlins this evening.Shellharbour coach Dave Walsh said the Reds were an unknown quantity."It's their first year in the comp and they've got a fair bit of travelling to do, so it will be a good occasion to play them at home with Wendell," he said. The Marlins have won five straight to climb to fourth spot in the club's second season.
