SHELLHARBOUR overcame an early deficit to record a gritty win over Belrose in the Jim Beam Cup clash at Ron Costello Oval yesterday.

The Marlins trailed 10-0 but launched a stirring fightback before holding on to win 28-24.

Leading 16-12 at the break, coach Dave Walsh used a limited interchange in the second half, resting players before Sunday's elimination final game.

"It was a pretty ordinary start by us again and we've still got a few things to work on," Walsh said.

"But we worked hard and we can take a bit of confidence out of the fact we fought back to win."
